Academy Awards Night

The Academy Awards (aka "Oscars") will be screened on Vera's spankin' new 50" plasma TV on Sunday, February 25, 2007. The show starts at 5:30 p.m. (PST), but the all-important red carpet events (where we get to admire/ridicule outfits) start at 3:00 p.m. Viewers are welcome to arrive beginning at 4:00 p.m. (I suppose you could come at 3pm, but you will be put to work!)

Warning: there will be a voluntary Oscar pool conducted during the show. Prior to start time, participants will be asked to record their predictions regarding the winners on pre-printed ballots. Each category that is televised will be voted on. The winner is the entrant with the most correct predictions. There will be an entry fee of $10 per person for anyone who wants to play. First place gets 50% of the pool, second places gets 30% and third place gets 20%.

Vera will be providing, gratis, a delicious dinner of sliced tri-tip beef with risotto cakes (a creamy risotto made using the finest fontina cheese then gently fried into delicate crispy cakes). These cakes can be quite lovely with their molten-cheese centers. Vera is looking for hints on where to find panko (Japanese breadcrumbs).

The rest of the meal (i.e. apps, veggies/salad, dessert) is up to us.

Please use the comment feature to record both your attendance and what you will be bringing to the pot-luck feast. Please make sure your name appears somewhere in the post so we know who is bringing what.

I'm flying back from Boston in the wee small hours of the morning to attend this exciting event!

I will be making sweet and sour Kielbasa as an appetizer.

Thank you Millie for starting the ICK blog! But who will post for the technologically challenged Frank? Shall we all gang up on him and force him to get on the Internet FINALLY?

Vera,

You can find Panko at the Japanese market on the northeast corner of Centinela and Venice. The market is next to the CVS drug store (formerly Savon).

Let me know what I can bring to fill out the menu.

If you like I could bring a spinach salad with red onions, mandarin orange wedges and slivered almonds.

Let me know.

Jeannie - sounds good!

Straight Shooter - is that you Beethie? Hmmm, where did that nick come from?

Some horse doovers would be great (maybe cheese and crackers or the like)

Sounds good. We'll bring an apetizer some cheese, crackers and the like.
Yeah, that's me, StraightShooter. The one with all the straights.

Sounds like fun! I'll be there. After talking to you today, I will bring some crusty bread and meats to complement the cheese.
